More than seven months after Olympic runner Oscar Pistorius' trial for killing girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp started, Judge Thokozile Masipa today announced a punishment of five years imprisonment after finding him guilty of culpable homicide.
Pistorius was acquitted of murder. He had testified during his murder trial that he mistook Steenkamp for an intruder. Reporters in court in Pretoria say that Arnold Pistorius, uncle of the jailed athlete, has indicated there will be no appeal – the family expected him to go to jail.
