A report on Daily Trust has it that unknown gunmen launched an attack at the Koton-Karfe Federal Prison late Sunday night freeing over 140 inmates and leaving one person dead and two injured.
A detachment of armed soldiers arrived the town, hours later, it was gathered that the attackers had concluded their mission and fled. A terrified resident of the town told Daily Trust on telephone that there was power outage and many people had put on their generator sets but when the gun fire started, the town went silent as residents scampered to safety in the nearby caves while others were holed up in their homes.
Some residents who attempted to come out find out what was going on were said to have been shot by the unknown gunmen. “The attackers appeared to be well coordinated because they were all over the town sending people back into their houses who attempted to come out,” a resident said. The peaceful town was thrown into panic by 10pm with heavy gun shots which continued for more than two hours before armed soliders came.
The rampaging gunmen had left with unspecified numbers of the prison inmates after freeing others.
According to The NATION, The Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi is to have his seized travel passport and withheld salaries returned. Besides, the Kano Central Prison is to be relocated for better security at the Emir’s palace. It is all as part of last Thursday’s reconciliation with President Goodluck Jonathan.
The Presidency is believed to have decided to have what is known as “total reconciliation with the Emir”.
Although the Presidency is aware of the closeness of the Emir to the leaders of the APC Political Party, the olive branch is meant to ensure his “neutrality” during next year’s elections. A Government source while speaking, said “After the open meeting last Thursday, the President and the Emir met at the inner recess of the Presidential Villa for about five minutes. “Some political leaders from Kano, who witnessed the session, were all excited that there is a new understanding between the President and the Emir. “Prior to the meeting, there had been apprehensions on likely hostile crowd against the President in Kano during the 2015 campaign. “With the rapprochement, the Emir’s travel passport and his withheld salaries and allowances will be paid. These are some of the gains of the meeting”. Continue.. “If the traveling documents are released, the Emir will be able to travel abroad for check up and to meet his international friends who are desirous of investing in the Emirate,” the source said. The State Security Service (SSS) had in February seized Sanusi’s passports.
The SSS on May 14 prevented the former CBN Governor from boarding a Turkish Airline flight to Saudi Arabia for the lesser Hajj. Justice Ibrahim Buba of the Federal High Court, Lagos had on April asked the Federal Government, the police and the SSS to release Alhaji Sanusi’s passport unlawfully seized from him in February.
A barman, who works in a hotel located on Obokun Avenue, in the Ojodu area of Lagos, is battling with wounds he sustained during an ‘unprovoked’ attack by a customer.
Punch Metro learnt that the alleged attacker, Kelvin Friday, a resident of Ojodu-Abiodun, Ogun State, allegedly stabbed the barman, who he accused of staring at him and his girlfriend.
It was gathered that Friday and his girlfriend, whose name had yet to be ascertained, had gone to drink in the hotel around 6pm on October 21, when the incident happened.
The victim, Simeon Tenebe, claimed he was brooding on an issue he had discussed with his sister earlier in the day when the 25-year-old man confronted him. He added that Friday interpreted his stare for rebuke and challenged him to a scuffle.
Friday reportedly smashed the bottle of beer he was drinking on the barman, inflicting injuries on his face and head. His girlfriend, it was learnt, fled the scene when Tenebe started bleeding.
Prior to the incident, it was said that Friday had accused the barman of being unpleasant while attending to him and his girlfriend.
Our correspondent also gathered that Tenebe reported the incident to the police, who arrested the suspect and charged him to an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court for assault.
The Assemblies of God Church has announced the excommunication of its past General Superintendent, Rev. Paul Emeka, from the church. According to a new report on PUNCH, the decision was part of the resolutions reached by over 7,000 delegates of the church at its latest General Council meeting. The delegates had decided on the excommunication after concluding that the ex-spiritual leader “had dragged the name of the church in the mud by instituting legal suits and using law enforcement agencies to witch-hunt some of their leaders.”
While announcing the removal of its spiritual leader’s dismissal from the ministry with his pastoral certificate withdrawn, the church also announced the emergence of Rev. Chidi Okoroafor as the new General Superintendent of the church. He was elected alongside three other principal officials and fifteen zonal representatives to form the new Executive Council of the church for the next four years.
According to the Legal Adviser of the church, Barrister Abuka, the dismissal of Emeka was necessary and had paved the way to institute litigation against the former general superintendent, who was alleged to be “making moves with some members to take over the church. The church also claimed he was working with other alleged collaborators believed to be working at cross-purposes with the church’s leadership.
Commenting on the crisis rocking the church, Okoroafor said the measures were necessary to remove those whom he described as “dissidents bent on frustrating progress” in the church. He confirmed that legal actions would be taken against Emeka and others seeking to take over the church through lawsuits.
Justifying the reasons for this, the new general superintendent said:
“We cannot spiritualise legal issues. You can’t just be praying when somebody is taking you to courts. We would no long keep quiet and allow our property taken over or our accounts fraudulently run by them.”
He pointed out that the church had identified constitutional loopholes that Emeka and other capitalised on, stating that such sections would be properly addressed when an emergency council meeting holds next year.
However, the excommunicated general superintendent told SUNDAY PUNCH that he stood for reconciliation. According to him, the church has been embroiled in some crises in which a former Governor of Ebonyi State, Sam Egwu and the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria intervened in the matter.
Emeka said:
“By announcing my excommunication from the church, they are trying to instill fear into people so that they can distance themselves from me. I stand for reconciliation. I have committed no offence. But, some people in the church organised an illegal election to remove me by force from office. They would not allow me to complete my four-year tenure in office which started in 2010. They are even threatening my life. I have petitioned the Inspector-General of Police on that.”
Comedian Julius Agwu has withdrawn his intention to be the next governor of Rivers State. According to a statement from his manager, Prince Sunday Uwem:
"There was a meeting on Thursday, October 30 between Julius Agwu and his kinsmen from Ikwere, and it was agreed that he should step down from the governorship race because the current Governor Rotimi Amaechi is his friend and they are both from the same area.
They’ll want the position to rotate to another part of the state and Julius Agwu has decided to listen to his people and withdraw from contesting.’
TheNet.ng adds that earlier this month, sources in the comedian’s camp said Governor Amaechi invited Julius to a meeting, urging him to step down based on the rotation quota of the state. That the comedian is being offered a legislative post but he’s yet to fully decide what his next line of action will be. This will be determined by a couple more meetings he is planning with stakeholders to ascertain what other viable positions are available for him.

I am using this opportunity to send this message to the infidels in Nigeria and their rest infidels in the world in Hausa vernacular, the tongue that many understand and if the need arise, I will explain in Fulani and Kanuri, but let us explain to you briefly.
People should know that it is Allah that we are serving, the Prophet of Allah SWT. This is what we put ahead of us; we are praying to die in this path and see heaven and begging Allah to grant us inner most part of heaven and may Allah shield us.
You followers of the constitution, have you forgotten your what you said in your constitution when we were preaching in Maiduguri town? In you constitution, you cite section 8 verse 1, 2 to 3 in that your cursed document referred to as the constitution, that it is a law and not reversible. You came out in your radio and newspapers and say we are fighting for Islamic Caliphate, it is that constitution that stops us preaching in Maiduguri, and we move out because of exile Allah tasked us to embark.
Have you also forgotten? And you are now seating down and say you have reached ceasefire with us, with who? That your infidel Danladi Ahmadu, if he is our hands today he will not pass the day because we will slight his throat. When did we even know him? Who is Danladi in this world? Allah is the knower of everything.
Because of this, there is no any ceasefire or dialogue with anyone instead it is a war with beating and killings, and guns that we are hungry for like food with Maggi cubes. We are on course; our focus and determination is to see that only Quran is being use in running the world, with Allah this is what we put ahead of us.
That President Idris Deby of Chad and one Ambassador of Nigeria, with Cameroon that we are doing ceasefire, where did they see us? Your white man from Germany is with us presently, he is crying and if we like we will cut him into pieces, or gun him down. We are not afraid of anyone except Allah; this is our job.
Who have freed girls from Chibok whom we abducted in their school? Those girls that Shekau abducted and took them to place of his choice about six months today. Allah passed infidels; Allah is ahead of America, Allah is ahead of a plane called drone, nonsense, Allah is supreme ahead of everyone.
If parents of Chibok girls will know the condition of their children, they will not be worry; it is either to be with their conversion to Islam or you die with pains. You don’t know that the over 200 Chibok girls have convert to Islam, they have memorized several sections of Quran, they have finished in the midst of John, Luka and others, they have realized that Christians have filled old testament with lies.
Small girl from Chibok insisting that Islam is the true religion, just form six. We have married them off, and they are in the house of their husbands. To hurt people is Shekau, they are saying Shekau is a throne; it is me Shekau whose father is Muhammadu, Shekau the man that hurts infidels, staying in the world will be difficult for you, you are just misbehaving in the world.
Who created you? We have not done any ceasefire with anyone; we did not, we did not do ceasefire with Chad, we did not do same with Cameroon and we did not do same with Niger and Nigeria. We did not do same with Ambassador of Chad, and we did not do any dialogue with Africa. We did not do same with Europe and Asia; we did not do with America and the useless United Nations of nonsense.
We did not, who is dialogue? It is a lie; it is a lie, we will not do it, Allah said no to it. We are working with Quran, and no infidel will threaten us. You lacked what to do; you want to please your leaders, and you are lying, the likes of Solomon Darlung, Abdullahi Wase, the likes of Senator Ndume. The people are tired, whether you like it or not we are working for others to convert Islam.
What is my business with you? Me that left my parents in our house; I left my mother and father. I came out to team up with those that want to promote Islam; you are just deceiving people with ceasefire.
It is with a single knife that I started and today with more than 20 vehicles I ceased from you, and they are saying Shekau is not a person but a special name. I greet you SSS; I greet you that went to study in Israel, I greet you a member of psychology origin; I greet you descendants of biology. I greet you fools that pledge to Nigeria.
You pledge to Nigeria your country, I Shekau pledge to Allah my God. If you don’t know, today you will know, I pledge to Allah to be faithful. This is Shekau, nonsense like you people. This is my brief talk; this one is okay for you, and you should convert to Allah and follow Quran.
You are unlucky to have missed Quran and stopping those doing it; it is a lie anyone that refuse will see.
Boko Haram have denied that they had agreed to a ceasefire in a new video obtained yesterday by AFP, describing the Nigerian government claims as a lie, and apparently ruling out future talks.
The group’s leader, Abubakar Shekau, also claimed the 219 schoolgirls kidnapped from the remote northeast town of Chibok, in Borno state, in April had converted to Islam and been married off.
The video comes after a surprise Nigerian military and presidency announcement on October 17 that a deal had been reached with the militants to end hostilities.
A senior presidential aide to Goodluck Jonathan also said agreement had been reached to free the schoolgirls, whose abduction sparked global anger and demands for their release.
There was immediate scepticism about both claims because of previous assertions of ceasefires and the identity of the purported Boko Haram envoy at the supposed talks, Danladi Ahmadu.
Violence — and fresh kidnappings — have continued unabated since the announcement, including a triple bombing of a bus station in the northern city of Gombe on Friday that killed at least eight.
Nigeria’s government maintains that talks were ongoing in the Chadian capital, Ndjamena.
But Shekau, speaking in Hausa, dressed in military fatigues and boots with a black turban, and flanked by 15 armed fighters, said: “We have not made ceasefire with anyone…
“We did not negotiate with anyone… It’s a lie. It’s a lie. We will not negotiate. What is our business with negotiation? Allah said we should not.”
He also denied knowing Danladi.
There was no indication of when or where the video was shot but it was obtained through the same channels as previous communications from the group.
In it, Shekau mentions the Chibok girls for the first time since a video obtained on May 5, when more than 100 were shown in a rural location dressed in the hijab and reciting verses from the Koran.
Then, the militant leader said many of the girls had converted to Islam but in the latest, he indicated that all of those held had become Muslims.
“Don’t you know the over 200 Chibok schoolgirls have converted to Islam? They have now memorised two chapters of the Koran,” he said.
Shekau previously threatened to sell the girls as slave brides and also suggested that he would be prepared to release them in exchange for Boko Haram prisoners.
In the latest message, he said while laughing: “We have married them off. They are in their marital homes.”
Human Rights Watch said in a report published this week that Boko Haram was holding upwards of 500 women and young girls and that forced marriage was commonplace in the militant camps.
One former hostage said she saw some of the Chibok girls forced to cook and clean for other women and girls who had been chosen for “special treatment because of their beauty”.
Since Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola and Ayo Fayose (governors of Osun and Ekiti state respectively) 'introduced' stomach infrastructure into Nigerian politics, it has been trending.
The Lagos State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Develpoment, Oluwatoyin Ayinde, has said that the collapsed six-storey building of the Synagogue Church of All Nations has no government approval.
According to a new report on PUNCH, Ayinde stated this on Thursday while giving testimony before the coroner probing the cause of the building collapse. No fewer than 116 persons died while several others sustained varying degrees of injuries in the September 12, 2014 tragedy.
Ayinde said investigations conducted by his ministry after the accident revealed that though the six- storey building had a record of survey, it however had no approval of the government. He said the only thing found in the records was an approval for the church’s main auditorium, adding that though that auditorium had now been raised to eight floors, the approval given was only for five floors.
The commissioner, who described all unapproved structures in the church’s premises as illegal, stated that there was the need to investigate what he described as unusual practices going on within the church premises. Ayinde wondered why, for instance, one of the columns supporting the additional three floors placed on the main auditorium had to take off from the top of a water tank.
He said:
'The approval that we saw was in the name of the Synagogue Church of All Nations dated January 26, 2004 but that approval was just for the main auditorium and one of the things we discovered was that it was an approval for a five-floor development. But on our visit to the site, we discovered that the building had been taken to eight floors; we do not have the records of the additional floors, making those floors illegal construction. Did we see anything on the collapsed building? No. In our records, the collapsed building has no approval.
I’d like to say that with the additional structure we saw on site, we are inclined to express some fears. We have seen, for example, that one of the columns is not taking off from the ground floor, but it is resting on an existing water tank and I don’t know whether any engineer certified that construction. This needs to be investigated because it is an unusual practice to start a column middle way.'
While expressing doubts over the claim by the church that the collapse of the building was connected with some aircrafts that had hovered over it shortly before the accident, Ayinde stated that his investigations revealed that the distance between the said aircraft and the top of the building was one and a half the length of a football pitch.
He added that the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority had written a letter to his ministry showing a request by the Nigeria Air Force that some of their aircrafts were going to be having rehearsals at that time around that place.
He said:
'What we wanted to know was which aircrafts were flying at that particular time? Two, at what altitude were they flying? And three, what was the coordinate of their flight path?'
Joy Willaims, a 23-year old Nigerian girl has left her family in sorrow after she died in a failed £2, 000 buttock augmentation. The young girl who has had a nose job before, visited SP clinic, Bangkok on October 14 in a bid to have an enhanced butt. An operation in which her wounds became infected after few days. This made her to go back for a corrective surgery, or probably to remove the silicon implant.
Unfortunately, she was found dead on the operating table with a three inch-long stitched incision on her tail bone after medical staff found they were unable to bring her back to life. Thai officials investigating her death believe her operation had been delayed to ensure Joy had not eaten anything beforehand and that as a result, the operation began after the clinic’s legal closing time of 7pm.
Sompob Sansiri, the doctor who carried out the surgery, has been arrested and accused of negligence due to his acts of carrying out operations at nights without license. He has been charged with recklessness causing death and might be facing 10 years jail term if found guilty. However, her family has denied ever knowing she travelled to Bangkok and said she was a girl loved by all. Here is what her brother who spoke to Dailymail from Lagos said about her demise; 'We don't really know what went wrong, we only know what is in reports in the media. She was a very nice and caring person. She brought joy to people's lives. She was a beautiful girl, loved by everybody. We will miss her so much.' He added that family members are planning to visit the country so they could get her corspe. Though born in Lagos, Joy moved to Thamesmead with her mom in 2007 and had visited Thailand twice before deciding to go for the surgery.

All the security details attached to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal have been withdrawn this morning by the Federal Government, Daily Trust reports.
"Early this morning, few minutes after midnight to be precise, top level security report informed the Speaker that orders have been given for the withdrawal of his security details,” the news site said.
It will be recalled that Tambuwal formally announced his defection from PDP to APC on Tuesday while the party immediately called on him to resign his position because PDP brought him to power.
I just read this on Facebook and thought I should share it. It is no news that the governor of Abia state, Chief T.A. Orji has a senatorial ambition, his son, Chinedu Orji (as known as Ikuku) also has his eyes in politics; but what will surely make tongues wag is the fact that wife of the Abia state governor is also rumoured to have a political ambition. Hian! Yes, I'm wondering too.
I recently found that People's Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman of the state, Charles Ogbonnaya is a cousin of the governor. Continue to reaad the post...
Information just reaching our news room from a very reliable source indicates that the wife of Abia state governor Mrs Odochi Orji has concluded plans to pick the PDP nomination form to contest the Umuahia North/Umuahia South/ Ikwuano Federal House of Representatives seat in the 2015 elections.
Barring any last minute changes, Mrs Orji will pick the form before the deadline tomorrow by 6pm to complete a tripple combo by the first family.
Her husband, Governor T. Orji last week picked the Party's nomination form for the Abia Central Senatorial Seat while her Son, Chinedum Orji aka IKUKU yesterday picked the form to contest the Umuahia central state constituency seat haven been annointed to become the next speaker of the state Assembly.
Gov. T. Orji has also concluded plans to foist his annointed candidate Okezie Ikpeazu to take over from him as the governor of the state in 2015. Ikpeazu resigned his appointment as the deputy manager ASEPA on Oct. 10 and has since picked his nomination form for the guber race. IGTV on Facebook
According to a new research, men who sleep with multiple women are less likely to develop prostrate cancer. The researchers found men who have more than 20 sexual partners slashed their risk of prostate cancer by 28 per cent. And men who have slept with more than 20 women reduced their chances of getting the most aggressive tumour by 19 per cent. It further states that, celibacy doubles the risk of the disease. The rationale behind the findings is that regular intercourse may flush out cancer causing chemicals as the prostate secretes the bulk of the fluid in semen. The study claims masturbation and having much sex with one partner doesn't count. The research is published in the journal, Cancer Epidemiology.
Whew! There is nothing these oyibo people will not find. Is this in anyway encouraging promiscuity?
The number one citizen of Zambia, President Michael Sata has died. He died last night at London's King Edward VII hospital where he has been receiving treatment for an undisclosed ailment. Zambian Government confirmed the incident today. Sata died at age 77.
The South African police has released composite images of two men suspected of killing Bafana captain Senzo Meyiwa.
The 27-year-old goalkeeper was gunned down after an altercation with burglars that broke into the house of his pop star girlfriend, Kelly Khumalo last Sunday. Police launched a manhunt and earlier on today released the sketches that were recreated from eyewitness descriptions. A reward of R250,000 ($23,000) has been offered for any information leading to the arrest of Meyiwa's killer. Local media reports that Meyiwa's family have also hired private investigators to conduct a parallel probe of the death.
Meanwhile, in an exclusive interview with MailOnline, Senzo Meyiwa's best friend, Tumelo Madlala, told of the devastating moment he saw Senzo gunned down.
Tumelo Madlala was visiting the goalkeeper and his girlfriend, Kelly Khumalo, in Spruitview, Ekurhuleni, when three men broke in and demanded her mobile phone after a family Sunday lunch. The 27-year-old footballer intervened when one of the intruders became violent with his girlfriend but was shot at point blank range as Miss Khumalo's two children screamed in horror. Tumelo said:
'Three men came into the house. They wanted Kelly’s phone and she refused to give it to them. There was scuffle between Kelly and one of the men. Senzo stood up and tried to intervene... 'That was when the man pulled out a gun and shot Senzo.'
Meyiwa, who recently fathered a child with his pop-star girlfriend, is understood to have been on his way to meet his wife, Mkhize, at a party when he was killed in cold blood.
Meyiwa with wife Mkhize
Mkhize had met Meyiwa in Johannesburg in 2005. They got married in 2013 and barely a year later he was seeing Khumalo albeit without Mkhize's knowledge. Mkhize later found out and a saga ensued with Khumalo assaulting Mkhize. Meyiwa had reportedly gone back and forth between the two women over the past year but recently went public with Khumalo by his side.
Mkhize who has two small daughters with Meyiwa, is now said to be too devastated while Ms Khumalo has become the target of internet trolls who branded her an 'adulterous witch' over her relationship with the married footballer.
Senzo will be buried on Saturday in his home town in Durban.
The People's Democratic Party, PDP, has urged the speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, to leave office after Mr. Tambuwal officially announced his defection from the party to All Progressives Congress, APC.
According to Premium Times, the clearest indication he was joining the opposition party came more than a week ago when he attended a meeting of the APC in Sokoto State.
He said the state governor, Aliyu Wammako, had invited him for the meeting after he was snubbed by a visiting PDP delegation to the state, led by Tony Anenih, the Board of Trustees chairman.
His months of denial is believed to have been informed by his concerns about losing his position as the speaker.
The PDP said its National Working Committee has met with its leaders in the House of Representatives concerning the defection of the speaker, and after due considerations, it said the speaker should do what is honourable since his new party is in the minority.
“After a thorough consideration of the matter, the NWC came to a conclusion that the Hon. Speaker, as a responsible elected officer, knows full well what is needful and honourable of him since his new party is in the minority.
“We are not unmindful of the fact that Hon. Tambuwal became Speaker on the platform of the PDP as the political party with the majority of seats in the House of Representatives and that this incontrovertible fact has not changed.”
Girls and women abducted by Nigerian Islamist group Boko Haram have described their shocking life in captivity in a harrowing new report by Human Rights Watch which was published yesterday.
A 15-year-old girl who was held in a Boko Haram camp for four weeks in 2013 spoke of how she was forced to marry a militant more than twice her age:
“After we were declared married I was ordered to live in his cave but I always managed to avoid him. He soon began to threaten me with a knife to have sex with him, and when I still refused he brought out his gun, warning that he would kill me if I shouted. Then he began to rape me every night. He was a huge man in his mid-30s and I had never had sex before. It was very painful and I cried bitterly because I was bleeding afterwards.”
A 19-year-old who was raped said:
“I could not tell anyone what happened, not even my husband. I still feel so ashamed and cheated.”
Another woman with her, who was also raped, “vowed never to speak of it again as she was single and believes that news of her rape would foreclose her chances of marriage”. The majority of abductions by Boko Haram were of Christian women and girls, and many of HRW’s interviewees described being threatened with death or violence if they refused to convert to Islam. One woman said:
“I was dragged to the camp leader who told me the reason I was brought to the camp was because we Christians worship three gods. When I objected to his claim, he tied a rope around my neck and beat me with a plastic cable until I almost passed out. An insurgent who I recognised from my village convinced me to accept Islam lest I should be killed. So I agreed.”
Some abducted women and girls described forced labour and participation in military operations. A 19-year-old said:
“I was told to approach a group of five men we saw in a nearby village and lure them to where the insurgents were hiding.” She told the young men that she needed help. “When they followed me for a short distance, the insurgents swooped on them. Once we got back to the camp, they tied the legs and the hands of the captives and slit the throats of four of them as they shouted ‘Allahu Akbar’. Then I was handed a knife to kill the last man. I was shaking with horror and couldn’t do it. The camp leader’s wife took the knife and killed him.”
Many of those interviewed by HRW showed signs of stress and anguish, according to the report, although only the Chibok girls had been offered limited counselling. One 15-year-old girl said:
“I could not stop crying even when the insurgents threatened to kill me if I did not keep quiet. I kept on thinking, is it not better to die now than to face whatever terrible things they could do to me when we get to their camp? Even after I escaped from them and live far away from my village, I am still afraid. I think of death many times. My father tries. He encourages me to forget everything, but it is not easy for me. I have terrible dreams at night.”
All of those interviewed by HRW said more could have been done by government security forces to prevent abductions and respond more quickly when they happened. The organisation calls on the Nigerian authorities to investigate and prosecute those who commit serious crimes, to protect schools and the right to education, and ensure access to medical and mental health services for victims of abductions.
