"People stop what they are doing to look at my arse" - Angel

Voluptuous Angel Christopher has been in Nollywood for a while. She is an actress, model and scriptwriter, from Imo State.  She has acted alongside the very best in the business and even gone a step further to prove she has that little extra, not only to make her acts come to good effect but also to get her fans glued to the screen, enchanted by her seductive curves that are rather loud and captivating.
Some of her most notable films include :The Victim, Gallant Babes, Thanks For Coming, Money Riot, Clash of Madness, Regent King, Business Center, Nemesis You Sow, Holy Criminal, Church Mafians, The Punisher, Battle of Queens, to name but a few.
She told Potpourri recently that her selling point is her height, complexion, and shape. “ I have got a wonderful hips and boobs” she said.

And she shared an experience when her shape brought an undue attention her way. Though she declared that her ass has always caused her embarrassment.
Hear her: “Sure! Its a regular thing, atimes I feel shy to walk on the street because of the side talks from both guys and ladies.
Sometimes, people leave whatever they are doing just to stare at me when I pass them, both young and old,men and women. Some ladies do walk up to me just to ask what they will do to have my shape and I will smile and tell them that its a natural gift from God. I am blessed with a sweet body, but  if you want to force it, keep eating indomie, and they would start laughing and say they eat indomie everyday.
An old woman saw me some days ago and said, ‘my daughter you are really beautiful, hope you thank your God everyday for making you this special. And I smiled and said ‘yes ma’. So, that is what I see everyday.
Pornography is good for Nollywood – Benson Okonkwo
Benson Okonkwo is a rising actor who has arrived the scene like a fast train with bounty of goodies to offer. Since his foray into the industry, the Enugu-based sexy actor has had honours looming around him just as controversies would not steer clear. No thanks to the gay role he played in one of his most successful movies, “Pregnant Hawkers”
“My dear, it’s only a movie and make-belief, you know. We watch movies like that in Hollywood. Nigerians are hypocrites. I think pornography makes our movies more real. And for that reason I am in support of it. If you take a good look at Hollywood movies, for example, you will notice that it is rampant and it means nothing to them” he once told me.
Now, he still belives that assertion that pornograhphy is good. “Pornography is good for Nollywood. It’s like acting normal roles, first and foremost. It’s a movie and you act exactly what is in your script. And there are restrictions, besides kissing and touching here and there. Nigerian movies are not made for everyone”. He told Potpourri recently.
Nudity is out of it for me— Ken Erics
But Ken Erics, who is now being regarded as one of the most alluring sex symbols in Nollywood  would not toe the same line as Benson. “I am really a proponent of method acting. I can go as far as the role demands. I believe a character must be brought to live in its totality. For me, there are no half measures. So I immerse myself in the role and literally become that character for the duration of the production. Whatever is worth doing is worth doing well. But my versatility does not include going nude in a movie” he explained to Potpourri.
“Nudity is out of it for me. I believe a message can be passed across without nudity. Nudity doesn’t really make any difference. A good story is a good story”
Speaking about himself, the actor revealed he was into music before he started acting. “I sing, I play keyboard and guitar. I used to be a full-time musician before delving into acting.I still have a band group though. I write also. I’m much of an introvert now. With a small circle of friends. I don’t mingle with people of low virtue. I detest lies and fake people. I’m a perfectionist. I so much believe in dedication to work because I have great passion for the arts”.
Ken Erics is much known for movies like Burning Bridges with Ivie Okujaye and Esther Audu, Almost Perfect with Uche Jombo and Desmond Elliot, The Undertaker with Queen Nwokoye and Ngozi Ezeonu, Ekwueme with Nkem Owoh and Zulu Adigwe.

THE RUMPUS INTERVIEW WITH CHIMAMANDA NGOZI ADICHIE

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s latest novel,Americanah, is an interrogation of race, black hair, and love, but foremost, it is a love story that spans the course of one woman’s life. Ifemelu, the novel’s protagonist, begins her story in militarized Nigeria before heading to America to seek higher education. She stumbles through the follies of identity politics, self-acceptance, academia, and affairs of the heart. The novel has been praised for its use of blog-speak, as Ifemelu has found her voice through writing—brazenly—about the world around her. No topic is off-topic, and her readers expect the inciting glazed with a healthy dose of sarcasm and candor.
Chimamanda and I discussed the novel, but we also talked about societal structures of oppression, Nigeria’s anti-queer laws, and the necessity of speaking up. No, we did not discuss Beyoncé or even the newly-confirmed movie deal for Americanah with Lupita Nyong’o. Fancy? Sure. However, Chimamanda was a literary powerhouse long before she received those phone calls. She is the author of three books, a MacArthur fellow, a Hodder fellow, and a Radcliffe fellow. Never mind the TED Talk that has become the single story on single stories. While it’s wonderful that our entertainers have taken notice, Chimamanda is already a gilded star in the literary cosmos.
***
The Rumpus: Americanah is a big book spanning several decades, several countries, a cast of characters and themes. You’ve talked before, in other interviews, about learning to be black in America. I’m interested in how one balances the ideas in a book of this magnitude.
Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie: I think when I was working on the book, I wasn’t thinking about big ideas but rather what I was interested in. It’s about leaving home, love, race, hair, and I think all of those things are connected. I don’t think my process is very conscious. My process is all about following the story and following the characters.
Rumpus: I want to discuss the first few pages of the book where you touch on the idea of food deserts and poverty versus access to fresh produce and farmer’s markets and supermarkets.
AmericanahAdichie: One of the things that struck me when I came to the U.S. was discovering American poverty. I say this because I had consumed a lot of American culture, but I was not quite prepared for the reality of American poverty. When I first drove through West Philadelphia I had this strange sort of shock. I got the sense that this was a part of the U.S. that had been forgotten and that always stayed with me. I wanted to write a novel where the character notices, because it’s very easy to live through these things and not take notice. In five seconds you can drive through a neighborhood where things seem fine, to a neighborhood where the world seems to have forgotten that people are there.
Rumpus: When the novel begins, Ifemelu is a fat woman—a point that has been overlooked a lot in discussions about your novel. Can you talk about writing a fat woman, who has ideas, who has sex, who has a voice?
Adichie: I am interested in challenging the mainstream ideas of what is beautiful and what is acceptable. I think U.S. culture, in particular, demonizes weight in a way that I find disturbing. Being Nigerian—well, Nigeria is changing because everybody is watching America’s Next Top Model—but in general, Nigeria is not a culture that demonizes weight. When I think about “fat,” and the idea of self-censorship and language and the fact that “fat” is a bad word in America, I wanted to challenge it and poke fun at it. Why can’t fat just be a description? With Ifemelu, I wanted to talk about gender expectations and ideas of what’s attractive and who can be attractive. In the novel, Ifemelu doesn’t want to call Obinze because she wants to lose weight first, and of course she finally does, and actually he finds it very attractive that she’s not skinny, as do many people in the world. This homogenizing idea of what’s attractive in people’s real lives is not true.
Rumpus: One of Americanah’s themes is sponsorship. We see it from Aunty Uju’s affair to Ifemelu’s relationship with Curt. I am also thinking of Ifemelu’s first interactions with the desperate hair dresser. Can you talk about the challenges of writing a love affair in this context?
Adichie: I didn’t want to be apologetic about my love story, and I think to be willing to write about love you have to be willing to sound foolish. I wanted to write about foolish and goofy love and different relationships. I wanted to write about interracial relationships in a way that does not pretend as if race does not exist.
Rumpus: I am very interested in black love stories, both as a reader and a writer. Can you talk about some novels that were referential to you when you decided you would write a book about love?
Adichie: Buchi Emecheta’s novel, The Joys of Motherhood, which is often talked about as a feminist and political text, actually is a fantastic love story and has a very good sex scene, which I quite like.
Rumpus: What about the idea of the “exceptional Negro” in your book? There are the black characters who are removed from certain facts of everyday black life because they’ve “made it,” or women who are given a different set of expectations because they have a white parent.
Adichie: I was coming from a place of wanting to ask questions. What I’m struck by in the U.S., with American blacks, is that success and acceptance comes with an exceptionality card, so that in some ways these people are no longer black and that is when they become magical. Think about Oprah. In a way, they can do well or be accepted into these incredibly racist spaces and not be seen as black, and I find that quite interesting.
Rumpus: And the black American Obama love affair as a backdrop for Ifemelu and Blaine’s relationship?
Adichie: I wanted to capture the incredible exuberance and geeky optimism that happened when Obama was elected. I like to think of this novel as a memorial of that period. Ifemelu and Blaine’s relationship is clearly over, but the strange magic of the Obama period allows it to kind of hobble on.
Rumpus: In the novel, black hair has transformative powers. Tell me more about Ifemelu’s hair journey.
Adichie: Americanah is many things, but the major point is that it is about a woman who comes into her own. Hair, which, by the way, for me in a personal sense is also important, because my journey started where I thought of my natural hair as unattractive, to now being ridiculously pleased about having kinky hair. There’s a larger political statement about the need for black women to have different kinds of beauty. It’s about black women all over the world, not just the U.S., being told they cannot wear their hair the way it grows on their head. The world tells them it is unprofessional and untidy. I want us to have a world where black women’s natural hair is an equal option.
Rumpus: Finally, I want to talk about the critical piece you wrote for The Scoop on Nigeria and its homophobic laws. What prompted you to speak up?
Adichie: I did it because I wanted to start a conversation, and I wrote it particularly for a Nigerian audience and particularly for my generation of Nigerians. People talk about homosexuality in a way that is devoid of humanity. I think there are many Nigerians who are good and kind people, who hadn’t quite sat down to think about how deeply inhumane and unjust this law is. It’s very easy to alienate people when talking about something like this because Nigeria has become increasingly conservative in religion and religiosity. People close off as soon as you bring up the word. I knew that I would get a lot of negative pushback, but there’s no way I couldn’t speak about it. I had to.
People have told my family to tell me to keep out of this and stop supporting the gays. For every ten people who think and say that, there is also one person who says homosexuals should not be jailed or harassed. And that one person out of ten or out of twenty makes it worth it.

NANA NWACHUKWU: This social media journalism

The Nigerian media has been one sector that has come out of this government in flying colours. The media has been given unrestricted access to news and also unrestricted publication rights to the extent that it is nearly if not already abused.
The Nigerian media currently comprises of the traditional media (Newspaper and TV/Radio houses) and the New Media (Websites, blogs, and other social media)
Journalism is not all about spreading information. Previously in Nigeria, the delivery of news was limited and delayed in that it had to be verified, it had to go to print and the papers had to be distributed. More often than not, the radio and TV houses read their information from the Newspapers back then.
The coming of smartphones and other modern technology/devices brought a drastic change in news reporting. The mere fact that people made use of the internet and relied on it to a large extent made it easy for news or information put out on the internet easy to circulate. Smart devices placed people on the internet faster. It was easy to take pictures, tag them and post it to a social media of your own choice or to create a blog post about it.
As much as I would like to see the blessing and the bright light at the end of the tunnel in this, I wish to point out that it is a double-edged sword. It protects rights and slaughters dignity on the altar of publicity and page views.
The Social media journalists hardly ever get to verify any news before they click ‘post’, ‘tweet’ or ‘publish’. Let me explain this. Assuming the social media platform is Twitter and you have 50,000 followers and you tweet ‘Nana Nwachukwu that tweets from @purehaire is the new Chief Judge’. It is assumed that it gets to at least 50,000 timelines. If it were to be retweeted, multiply that with the number of followers of the person who retweeted it and so on and so forth. It would have gone to different timelines and time zones. It could be storified and published in several blogs and also re-blogged. That is how fast news travels no matter the authenticity.
The sadder part is that traditional media have also begun the error of not verifying stories before publishing. It is so bad that they actually quote the internet as their source. (What an authentic source right?)
I had a discussion with someone some time ago and he went on and on about media rights to publication and the spread of news. I tried to remind him that ‘where the rights of one person stops, the right of another begins’. You have the right to tell a tale but I also have the right to a clean spotless reputation which I have earned.
Verification of news would save individuals from being charged with sedition, libel and defamation of character. The damage that is caused by the internet is such that you can only have controls over the original post you have made which can be easily deleted but that of others who have copied, re-blogged and re-told your story is out of your control and such malicious data may not be cheap to take off the internet as it is.
Before you hit that ‘send’ button be sure it is a fact that has been verified!

Aba residents panic, security beefed up over alleged Boko Haram infiltration

On Wednesday, June 11, residents of Aba, Abia state woke up to the scary news of the presence of some members of the dreaded terrorist group — Boko Haram– in the city, the story which wasted no time in circulating all through the commercial hub of the state was however, denied by the Abia State Police command. It  was alleged that members of the sect had loaded some explosives inside trailers which were bringing onions from the northern parts of the country into Aba.

According to Daily Sun reports: It was further rumoured that the insurgents had  successfully beaten the web of security along their route from the North to Aba, before the explosives were discovered by some vigilant residents ,when the onions were being offloaded from the trailers at the Hausa market at Uratta, near Aba. It was equally rumoured that security operatives were immediately alerted over the incident. For some days now, security has been beefed up in and around the city, which tended to lend vent to the rumour that has sent fears down the spines of residents.

Commuters, including women entering the city  from all points were frisked by security agents, and their vehicles thoroughly searched, a situation that has caused heavy traffic build up in all the affected routes. In addition, tricycle operators popularly called “Keke Napep” have been banned from operating beyond 7pm, creating attendant hardship on commuters, a move that was said to be due to security reasons. When contacted, Abia State police command public relations officer (PPRO), Geoffrey Ogbonna dispelled the Boko Haram rumour. According to him, “there is nothing like Boko Haram infiltrating the city. The rumour is baseless; at least we should be in the know if there is anything like that, since they said the matter was reported to security agents.” Ogbonna urged the people of the state to go about their normal businesses without any fear.

Has the new Emir of Kano reconciled with Mr President?

The Emir of Kano, Mallam Lamido Sanusi reportedly swallowed his pride and begged President Goodluck Jonathan to enable him leave the government house and ascend the throne at the Emir’s palace.
Sanusi had been shacked up in a room at the Kano State Government House whilst police barricaded the Emir’s palace shortly after his appointment as Emir last weekend.
The official reason the police were stationed there was to prevent irate youth and looters from having access to the palace, since the news of Sanusi’s selection by Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso caused a lot of disaffection in the state.
However unofficially it was rumoured that President Jonathan sought to have Lamido Sanusi arrested due to alleged overwhelming evidence of fraud and other sharp practices against him during his tenure as Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.
Popular and reliable news source say it was the strength of the case against him that made the new Emir bow to President Goodluck Jonathan, and beg for forgiveness. Reportedly a source said, “Sanusi told the President he was sorry for anything he might have done wrong in the past and asked the President to consider him henceforth as a friend.”
Powerful intermediaries had lobbied on his behalf before the President even agreed to speak with him, Minister of Defence, Aliyu Gusau pleaded on his behalf.
As at latest report yesterday, the police had been withdrawn from the palace and the new Emir allowed to move in.

"I can't do without white" - Dabo

Ajibola Dabo who recently delved into politics has said he cannot do without white. The actor emphasised the importance of white to him, to the
extent that he can’t sleep on any bed except it has a white bed spread.
He also explains why he would not be caught dead wearing a coloured dress except on a movie set.
Here is what he said in a recent interview.
“My wearing white dress to event has to do with my spiritualism. That is the only time my soul is at peace and I am at peace with myself. I can never be caught wearing other colours except when I am working on a movie set.”
“It has nothing to do with rituals or anything like that. If I sleep with bed sheet that is not white, I would have nightmares. So, it (wearing white) has to do with my spiritualism. It is not juju or rituals; it is just my inner self, he said.

And Dr Sid is the worst dressed male at the MAMAs

Sunday, June 08, 2014

Though we love Dr. Sid’s music, and we just adore his beautiful wife, we have to call a spade a spade. Dr. Sid certainly flopped when it came to the fashion realm of this show.

It doesn’t even look like he tried. Perhaps he didn’t know that his outfit should have been a little bit more on the formal side?

Either way. He needs to step his fashion game up as soon as possible, because this is certainly not acceptable.
