Kanye West receives honorary Doctorate from The Art Institute of Chicago

Tuesday, May 12, 2015

Kanye West has gone from being a college drop out to Dr. West. Kim Kardashian's husband, yesterday received an honorary doctorate degree from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

SAIC, one of the most prestigious art schools in the US, said the honorary doctorate is given to "influential individuals" who earned "this distinguished award through their work''. Kanye's selection  stirred up controversy amongst some students and alum, but SAIC President Walter E. Massey and Dean of Faculty Lisa Wainwright firmly defended the decision to award Kanye with a degree in an interview saying:
"The guy is smart, the music is beautiful, it's complicated, it's post-modern, it's hip, it's awakening," said Wainwright, "I couldn't be happier."
Congratulations to him. See photos below...

Jim Iyke reportedly threatens to ‘kill’ Uti Nwachukwu

Thursday, May 07, 2015

Nollywood actor, Jim Iyke is allegedly very upset and has told people around him of his plan to beat Uti Nwachukwu silly whenever their paths cross.

According to Naij.com, a close aide of Jim Iyke said
that Jim is angry over what he termed ‘defamatory comments’ made by Uti about him on JARA. The source said Uti and Helen Paul, a co-host on JARA, had gossiped about the unsavoury relationship between Iyke and Nadia Buhari, his Ghanaian actress ex. The source said:
“Jim is really mad at Uti right now, trust me. He told us he would kill him whenever they meet. He didn’t find the comments made about him funny at all.”

''Our Artistes Now Invent Lies'' - Etcetera comes for Burna Boy in his new article

Saturday, May 02, 2015

Back in April, Burna Boy announced on his social media accounts that he had signed a song writing contract with Universal Records. Burna even shared a photo of the deal.

Well, Etcetera believes it is a fat lie and that the pink and brown contract posted on Instagram could have been printed at Oluwole. Continue below!
Ladies and gentlemen, you are welcome to the new game in town. For better or for worse, our music “industry” is embracing a new form of art. The focus has shifted almost entirely from making music to something else. Now the transition is finally complete and the sync word here is LIE.
In Nigeria today, every artist needs a “lying” platform – or three, to reach their target audience. Years back, radio used to be the dominant “platform” for breaking new artists, you may say it is still important, but the radio is certainly no longer the only game in town. It is becoming simply too limited, too expensive and too difficult to control to be the sole platform.
A better and surer way to expose the artist to the public has been discovered. Now the
artist with the biggest LIE has the bigger and better head start.
The Nigerian music “industry” has now brought a vast array of gifted liars. We have seen managers lying blatantly about the activities of their artistes just to be noticed. So far, it is working for them here in Nigeria. Our gullibility has made it too easy to become an artist here in Nigeria.
What was your reactions when Burna Boy tweeted about his new songwriting deal with Universal Music Group? Did you notice how the blogs went gaga congratulating him? If truly Burna Boy got a deal, why didn’t Universal Music Group issue a statement to that effect? Well, strange stuff has happened.
Isn’t the Nigerian music “industry” at risk with this lying game taken to this new level? Is it no longer worth noting that the actual quality of the artist’s songs should be a predominating factor in a decision to recruit him as a songwriter? Why are we acting as if we don’t know that Burna’s songs won’t find many readily available patronisers outside the shores of Nigeria? If they do, they can only be appreciated by only a few Nigerians.
Even in cases where there is a proven audience for a particular artiste’s work, it is not enough to make it a big deal to corner a deal. As a musician reading this article, would you approach Burna Boy to write you a song? Judging by what you’ve heard from him so far! If you can’t, why would a foreign company with a long list of songwriters employ him as a songwriter?
One reason why there are no record labels in Nigeria is that a lot of our music stakeholders are sentimental in their approach to the business. The guys at Universal are not jokers. They are strictly in it for the money. They don’t attach sentiments to their dealings. They know that songwriting is not actually a business. There’s no financial element attached to songwriting in itself. It is the job of the music publisher to turn the song into something that can generate income. Can Burna’s song guarantee the kind of financial returns we are talking about here?
How many CDs has he sold in Nigeria as an artist? I am not talking of the free downloads of singles on blogs, but the copies of actual albums he has sold. How many people have his album in their homes? The pink and brown contract sneaked up on us on instagram could have been printed at Oluwole. Until Universal Music Group authenticates these claims, everything Burna has said could not be true.
It is a shame that Nigerian journalists will never see it necessary to investigate any issue before plastering it all over their platforms. I was on set on Nigezie, shooting the Etcetera Live TV show when the producer asked if I heard about Burna Boy’s new deal with Universal Records. Right there and then, I went online and checked the authenticity of the story. The first thing I checked was if Universal Music Group issued any statement to that effect. I wasn’t surprised that the story could only be found on Nigerian websites. The websites of Universal in America, South Africa and other countries had nothing suggesting they have anything with Burna Boy. Their Facebook pages said nothing too.
There is an official statement on every deal they have made. It is the norm with every recording company in the world. You employ a songwriter who is like a talent magnet; a record maker. Someone who brings forth the talent in the singer. Someone whose role is to write songs that define the artistes and give them a reason for existence and you keep that under the carpet? It doesn’t make any sense. The truth is, there’s no song of Burna that suggests he is anywhere close to being the kind of songwriter we are talking about here. This guy sounds like he doesn’t want anyone to pick out his lines.
Finally, it is very important for all those with music interest to note that in this new LIE eco-system of ours, there are three things a musician needs, and his success or failure can be predicted almost entirely on the basis of how many of these three things are in place.
If you can provide a clean sweep of three out of three, like Burna Boy, you’ll likely be signing a record deal with Universal Music Group even without being able to hold your notes vocally. If you’ve got two out of three, you will probably get an offer, like some other artistes have claimed at different times. Though it might not be exactly the deal you were hoping for. Bring only one out of three and the best you can hope for is a polite invitation to come back sometime in the distant future.
So here are the three things every Nigerian will pay for – the essential components to a successful “Music Career” – 1.LIE, 2.LIE and 3.LIE!

PHOTO: This new version of the Bible replaces every mention of God with Kanye West

Tuesday, April 07, 2015

The Book of Yeezus is a hardback bible that replaces every mention of God with Kanye West's name. As blasphemous and offensive this book may appear to be, the creators argue that it’s only an “editorial art piece”. According to them:
This book wasn’t made to make fun at Kanye, or really even show or undying devotion towards him. Book of Yeezus is simply an exposition. It’s adding an original twist to something ancient and important in order to capture new meaning. We are trying to cast our spotlight towards the way cultural icons have come to be the contemporary spiritual figures in our information culture.
Each generation champions a superstar, so consistently relevant that they come to accompany that generation through its evolution, being a part of and ultimately shaping its identity. Such past icons have been the likes of Frank Sinatra, Marilyn Monroe, John Lennon, or Michael Jackson. For this generation, Generation Y, Kanye West is not only its greatest spectacle, but in some senses, a spiritual figure. We are here to spread a doctrine. Well, a pseudo-doctrine.

PHOTOS: Meet the Jamaican artiste who had a surgery to have horns implanted on his head

Friday, March 20, 2015

Dancehall artiste Furtyle Brain got goat horns implanted into his head so he can stand out and be a bigger artiste.

29-year-old Furtyle whose real name is Kenardo André Robinson, said the implants were done in Jamaica by a Canadian-based surgeon.

"It's really the process where the implants are implanted in the skull. I was sedated during the surgery but had to be given lots of painkillers when I was revived because it is very painful," he said.
On why he did the surgery which has come with a lot of backlash, he said:
"I do believe that I got some form of prophetic instruction by God. I didn't do this alone. There are some people who think that I am demonic, but it doesn't bother me much as I am not the first artiste who is picked on. There are others who have done far less than I have done and have received a backlashing and bashing." he said.

Court sacks Ibinabo Fiberesima as AGN President

Monday, March 16, 2015

Ibinabo Fiberesima was this morning removed as President of the Actors’ Guild of Nigeria (AGN) on the orders of a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos.

Justice James Tsoho who gave the ruling, said the election was conducted against court order and ordered all parties involved to maintain the status quo. The suit was filed by an actor, St. Maradona Mikevine, who was the national treasurer in the election that produced another popular actor, Emeka Ike, as AGN president.

Mikevine, in his suit, argued that the election that brought Ibinabo into office was conducted in the face of a subsisting court order restraining the conduct of AGN election.

NationalMirror adds that he had urged the court to determine whether it was proper for an election to be conducted in the face of an order to the contrary, and whether anyone could parade himself or herself as AGN executive based on an election conducted against a court order. The suit that brought about the initial order was filed by Emeka Ike.

But Ibinabo who insisted that she was not the one that conducted the election that produced her as AGN president but the AGN board itself, had stressed that Mikevine ought to have channelled his grievance with the election to the Electoral Committee of AGN and not the court.

Ike had filed the suit on July 25, 2013 to contest the formation of an illegal government coined “National Unity,” to run the affairs of the AGN. The actor had sought an order of court, reviewing the 2007 Constitution of the guild, as it relates to the tenure of members of board of trustees.

Wizkid and I were never friends – Skales

In an Exclusive interview with TheNET in Lagos, Baseline artiste, Skales talked about the beef between himself and former label mate, Wizkid.

Let’s talk about your recent twitter spat with Wizkid, you guys were together at an event some hours before you went online, what really happened?

The truth is, we were not really together, we were just at the same venue at the same event that’s all, and really, whatever needs to be said now has already been said on twitter so you can pick everything there, right now I’ve put the whole episode behind me. I just want people to focus more on my music, it’s life human beings must always fallout..

Let’s go back to your time at E.M.E, what kind of relationship did you have with Wizkid?

We were just there, we were cool. For me it was just about making music, that’s what brought us together in the first place, it’s not like we are from the same family, so let’s just focus on the music which was what I did, if I had something on my mind I always say it out.

At what point did you guys really fall out?

We never really fell out, the relationship we had has always been about music, it’s not like we are brothers, we are not from the same family like I said, it was just business and music, so we were cool, and even till now we are still cool, I have no bad blood against him, I just want to face my music right now, I’m about to drop my album and that’s all that matters to me right now.

How long have you been trying to get Wizkid to work with you?

For as long as every other person has been trying I guess (laughs), we know that he’s a busy person and I’m a busy person too, I’m doing my own thing too. The truth is, I really don’t want to talk about it.

Will you consider working with Wizkid anytime soon?

I don’t know, fingers crossed.

"I am a secondary virgin" - Yvonne Nelson

Wednesday, March 04, 2015

Ghanian Actress and producer Yvonne Nelson has stated that she is a secondary virgin and would want to concentrate more on her career as marriage is not on her itinerary for now.

Yvonne said this in an interview with KSM on the KSM’s Show on Metro TV,

“This year I’m a secondary virgin I’m just trying to concentrate on my career. I’m not in a rush; I don’t want to marry today and divorce tomorrow because it happens a lot in the industry. Marriage is a beautiful thing but it has to be right. I don’t want to let my mom down, I want to make her and myself happy”, she said.

“Most Ghanaian and Nigerian men are intimidated; most often when it’s age appropriate; then they think I’m doing better than them and that I’m going to be bossy and control them around. Those around my age are bothered that I’m an independent lady. That has always been the problem”.

“There was about two guys who got scared. But I really don’t mind. Middle of last year, I was trying out something and I wasn’t convinced so I backed off. It had to do with the man not being matured enough” she explained.

She however talked about her dream man saying;

“The person has to be age appropriate – a five year gap is okay. But I don’t want someone too old because when that happens, you can’t hold a conversation with such a person”.

The producer also explained that she does not want to date anyone in the industry especially John Dumelo as according to her, the actor is a ladies’ man and will forever be.

“I have been declaring this on social media every time that John is not my boyfriend. John has a lot of girlfriends. He is a ladies’ man and he will forever be John. Plus I don’t want any man in the industry".

Wizkid’s car hasn’t been paid for, Genevieve owns her Ghana mansion in her dreams - Etcetera reveals

Saturday, February 28, 2015

Hmm... Etcetera comes again for Nigerian celebrities. Does this guy ever get tired? There's only one way to find out – time will tell...

And all liars shall go to hell – Rev 21:8.

Again, I’m going to go out on a limb here to talk on a subject that may not be very popular or nice to Nigerian celebs, especially the guilty ones. I have said it severally that just because someone is a celebrity doesn’t mean they are smart. They may have a talent or skill but many of them are not smart especially when it involves their finances. The old saying, “your lies will come back to haunt you” has never been more true than the recent cases of D’banj, Iyanya and Wizkid who are being kicked out of their homes after lying they owned the properties. The residents of blogosphere boulevard were stunned when the news broke that D’banj got an eviction notice from his landlord and was also said to be highly indebted.

Yes, it is hard to believe that someone of D’banj’s status could actually be thrown out of his house. But for those who know that the Nigerian entertainment industry is built on lies and more lies, it didn’t come as a surprise or a case of a cranky landlord. Entertainers are well rehearsed liars. They are not what they make you believe they are. Even the upcoming artist with just one song on radio issues a press release that they’ve bought a mansion in Lekki Phase One and a Range Sport SUV?

There was a time when it was strongly whispered that Don Jazzy and his crew owned Club Jonzing until the truth came out. You must have also heard that D’banj owns Koko Lounge. My brothers and sisters in habit of believing everything you hear, I wish you all knew how your favourite celebs laugh in their closet seeing you swallow the lies like fufu and draw soup. Let me give an example of how some artistes can be terrible liars, we were on a tour of five Nigerian cities with Basketmouth and his then Humour Unlimited monthly show sponsored by BAT. When we got to Enugu, a certain artiste was snoring like a broken trailer exhaust pipe in the bus on our way from the event centre to the hotel. I tapped him hoping to stir him up to reduce his noise but I was shocked when he woke up immediately swearing that he wasn’t snoring, that he was only trying to get our reaction. Our reaction? After snoring for about 20 minutes with a trail of saliva from one corner of his mouth to his shirt collar! O’boy some people can lie in Africa.

Did you hear it on breaking news when Iyanya bought a house in his dreams? His management must have thought it was a fantastic promo strategy then. If only they knew that not far into the future, Iyanya would be dragged by his balls across the floor of the internet, and that his aggrieved brother would take to twitter to inform everyone that Iyanya had been evicted (not from Project shame) from his dream mansion. Yes, it is double wahala for deadi-bodi and the owner of deadi-bodi but won’t it be tripple wahala for Oritsefemi and his management when fans eventually discovered that the N200m mansion he purportedly bought some months back was actually bought in his dreams and not in the real world?

How much does he charge per gig and how long has he been playing these gigs to be able to afford a mansion of that amount? Isn’t it wonderful how naija entertainers think their fans and everyone else is shallow and gullible? Common sense should tell every artiste that these lies won’t achieve anything but hurt their careers in the long run when the truth is eventually revealed.

Like it was revealed this week that Wizkid’s car hasn’t been paid for. True, some naija musicians make a lot of money, but not the kind of money they want you to believe. Does Oritsefemi look the part of a N200m house owner even with all his body cream? The telco brand ambassadors who are being coerced into lying about their endorsement fees can’t make such a preposterous claim not to talk of someone with no endorsement deal. I shivered when I saw in some blogs over the week that Genevieve just bought a house in Ghana for a whopping $4m. This will go down as the grandmother of all lies told so far. Genny baybay, you should have asked yourself if there’s any house worth $4m in the whole of Ghana, except you bought the Ghana National Theatre which by the way may not be worth $4m.

These lies are getting dumber by the day. The worst thing that can happen to any man is believing his own lies. If we had a system where entertainers are taxed for their acquisitions, the ridiculous and unnecessary lies will stop. They will speak the truth and nothing but the truth or so help them God.

Tinsel actress Joju Mose and ner numerous sex toys

Saturday, February 21, 2015

Tinsel actress, Joju Mose in a recent interview with Mary Ekah talks about her career, sex life and why she prefers sex toys to men

You look more like a tomboy. Are you in a relationship at all?

No, I don’t have a boyfriend. I am not a tomboy but I come across as a tomboy to people because I’m always on my snickers, T-shirt and jeans. I feel comfortable in those things. I don’t feel comfortable putting on dresses, gown, they don’t make me work fast. They don’t make me do things fact. I just prefer that simple, on-the-toe kind of dressing. Sometimes I go out without make up, if I see that making up will take a lot of my time. I just go without any make up.

You must have been in one relationship or another at some point in your life. Isn’t it?

You know there are some kind of relationship that you would know, yes, this is a relationship. I have never had kind of relationship. My longest relationship was three and half years. My shortest was a day.

Three and half years is that not a relationship?
It wasn’t a relationship like that. For the three and half years, it was off and on.

Why?
The guy wasn’t committed and at some point I was oh I have had enough. Now I need to focus on something else aside love.

Do you yearn for a serious relationship?
Not yet because I’m not ready for anything serious. Relationships are time consuming and a distraction to me. And right now, it’s me, myself, my career, my family and my happiness. A man in the picture is not what I want right now. If something comes up, I don’t think it would be with an Africa man.

Why?
I am not really into African guys.

Have you dated a white guy before?
Yes and it was a fantastic relationship. But he had to travel back to his base. And I wasn’t willing to leave my country because it was at that point I was about to take my career by the horn and just make something out of it. I couldn’t have left at that point.

Like how many sex toys do you have?
About four, the G-Spot stimulator, the rabbit, vibrator and one other, I can’t remember the name right now.

Have you ever falling in love before?
Oh yes, when I was still very naïve (laughs).

What is your take on acting nude?

Someone like me for instance, if I get a script, if the reason for me to go nude is sensible enough, why not? But there should be a story behind you going nude.

I invest heavily in gold to secure my future- Wizkid

Saturday, November 08, 2014

Wizkid while speaking to a PM News reporter has explained how he is trying to secure his future. According to him, he invests in gold and properties, even though people think investing in gold is vanity, it is a very good business he said.

Where are you investing all the millions you are making now?

I invest heavily in properties and jewellery. I spend more on gold. I have heard some people say they are vanities but I tell you, they are very good investments.

About being arrogant and acting like a terrible person

Well, everyone is entitled to his or her opinion. And you should also check those who claim I am a terrible person. I am not and my people know that.  Whatever any one feels,  he should not blame me for it. Everyone cannot like you; same as everyone cannot hate you. I am just being me and also being a good person. Fame has not changed me; it only added some accessories to my collections. People say I am arrogant and it does not bother me because I still show my fans love and they do same in return.
